Quality Control Questions

Quality control at CNB Solutions spans the full production cycle, not just the final inspection. Services include incoming material inspection (raw materials and components verified against specifications before production begins), in-process inspections at defined production milestones, pre-shipment inspection (PSI) conducted when production is 80-100% complete, and container loading supervision for shipments requiring it. For clients with ongoing production programs, we also offer periodic factory audits to verify that quality systems at the manufacturing facility remain compliant with agreed standards. The right combination of inspection types depends on product risk profile, volume, and factory maturity. CNB Solutions recommends a quality plan at the start of each engagement rather than applying a one-size approach.
A pre-shipment inspection (PSI) is a third-party or in-house quality audit conducted at the factory when production is 80-100% complete but before the goods are packed for shipping. The inspector samples the production batch using an AQL (Acceptable Quality Limit) sampling plan, checks functionality, dimensions, appearance, labeling, and packaging against the agreed product specifications. The inspection report is reviewed before the shipment is approved. The PSI is the critical control point because it is the last opportunity to identify defects before goods leave the factory. Defects discovered at the buyer's warehouse or — worse — in the hands of the end customer cost significantly more to resolve: return shipping, rework, replacement production, and in some cases regulatory or marketplace consequences. PSI is not optional in a CNB Solutions quality program.
CNB Solutions adapts the quality framework to the standards required by the product category and target market. For medical device components, this includes FDA 21 CFR Part 820 (Quality System Regulation) and ISO 13485. For products entering the European market, CE marking requirements and applicable directives are incorporated into the quality plan. Electronics and electrical products are reviewed for RoHS compliance. Industrial and general manufacturing programs typically reference ISO 9001 at the factory level. CNB Solutions does not issue compliance certifications — those are issued by accredited third-party bodies. Our role is to ensure that the factory and quality process align with the requirements of the applicable standard, and to document that alignment throughout the production program.
If a pre-shipment inspection results in a fail finding — meaning the defect rate exceeds the agreed AQL threshold — the shipment is placed on hold. CNB Solutions issues a corrective action request (CAR) to the factory, specifying the defects found and requiring a documented response: root cause analysis, corrective action, and timeline for rework or sorting. Depending on the nature of the defect, options include 100% sorting to remove nonconforming units, rework at the factory, partial shipment of conforming units, or rejection of the production batch. The client is informed of the finding and the proposed resolution before any decision is made. CNB Solutions does not approve a failed inspection to meet a shipment date. Schedule pressure is not an acceptable reason to release nonconforming product.
Yes. CNB Solutions coordinates third-party laboratory testing through accredited testing partners in China, Hong Kong, and the United States. For products requiring safety, EMC, chemical compliance (REACH, RoHS), or performance certifications, we identify the required tests, prepare samples, submit to the appropriate laboratory, and manage the reporting and follow-up. Lab testing is built into the production schedule as a defined milestone rather than treated as an afterthought before shipping. For first-time compliance programs, we advise on the applicable certifications during project scoping so that design and material decisions are made with compliance requirements in mind from the start, not as a correction after the design is locked.
